Two Men Sentenced for Arson Attacks on Halal Butcher Shop in France

Two 25-year-old individuals were tried summarily for arson and attempted arson of a halal butcher’s shop located near the Torcy train station. The incidents occurred on July 12, 17 and 19 last.
From their arrest to their appearance in court, the two arsonists continued to deny the facts, rejecting their responsibilities in this case. Despite this, they were respectively sentenced to three years in prison, including one with probation, and three years in prison, reports Le Parisien. They will have to pay a compensatory fine of 5,000 euros to the manager of the butcher’s shop as damages as a natural person, and 3,000 euros to the company as a legal person.
The two 25-year-old men were prosecuted for "degradation or destruction of the property of others by a dangerous means for persons" and for "attempted" crimes. They were apprehended by investigators thanks to the reporting of the license plate of the vehicle that allowed them to flee.
For the deputy prosecutor, these are "acts of intimidation" or "mafia-like behavior", which aim to "establish terror at the level of other merchants".
