Mayor of French Town Indicted in Morocco-Linked Drug Trafficking Case

Suspected of involvement in drug trafficking from Morocco, the mayor of a commune in Seine-Maritime has been indicted for complicity. Last October, she had been arrested and held in custody as part of this case, before being released, without charge and without prosecution.
The mayor of Canteleu is in hot water. On Friday, Mélanie Boulanger and her deputy were indicted for complicity in drug trafficking, reports TF1. Her lawyer strongly affirms that she has no connection with the alleged drug traffickers. "She has nothing to do with the people who are involved in a drug trafficking. They are not her friends, they are not her relatives," insists Arnaud de Saint Remy.
In October, 19 people were arrested in Canteleu and in Seine-Saint-Denis as part of this drug case, after two years of investigations carried out by 150 police officers from different units. They all belong to a vast drug trafficking network from Morocco, very active in four departments of France. "We are really dealing with national, even international trafficking. So it involves structured networks and professionals in the import of narcotics," says Frédéric Desguerre, union delegate — Unité SGP Police (Western zone).
The indictment of the mayor of Canteleu and her deputy is added to that of eleven other people.
