Massive Traffic Jam Hits Ceuta-Morocco Border as Weekend Travel Surges

Many people showed up on Friday at the Tarajal border crossing in Ceuta to go to Morocco to spend the weekend, creating a massive traffic jam. High-end vehicles from Morocco were also seen at the border.
The Tarajal border crossing already has two entry and exit lanes to facilitate traffic to and from Morocco. Despite this, a massive traffic jam was observed on Friday due to the large influx of people who wanted to cross the border at the start of this first weekend after the border reopening on Tuesday, reports El Mundo.
Many of these people want to take advantage of the weekend to see their loved ones in Morocco, after more than two years of separation. Thus, hundreds of vehicles showed up at the border, creating a long queue. The national police had to intervene to calm the spirits.
The presence of high-end vehicles from Morocco with license plates from Rabat and Casablanca was also noted at the border. These Moroccans want to enter the autonomous city to spend the weekend there.
The Spanish and Moroccan governments are trying to reach an agreement for the installation of a commercial customs in Ceuta in order to streamline the flow of goods. Meanwhile, passenger traffic is fully restored in both directions, which is good news for Moroccan and European tourists.
