Marseille's Frustration Mounts as Ounahi Rejects Transfers, Clinging to World Cup Dreams

Unwanted at Olympique de Marseille (OM), Azzedine Ounahi should leave the French club during this summer transfer window. But the Moroccan midfielder has declined the offer from Spartak Moscow and other clubs that wish to secure his services. An attitude that is starting to annoy the leaders of the Marseille club.

In search of performance, OM wants to strengthen its team for the next season. In this perspective, six players have been relegated to the reserve team to make room for new recruits. These are midfielders Azzedine Ounahi and Ismaël Koné, central defender Bamo Meïté and goalkeepers Ruben Blanco and Simon Nganpandouetnbu.

But Ounahi is clearly refusing to leave. The Moroccan international, who is returning from a successful loan to Panathinaikos, has already declined several interesting offers during this summer transfer window. At the end of June, the Atlas Lion refused to join Spartak Moscow with whom OM had reached an agreement for a 12 million euro transfer. The midfielder said he wants to continue his career in a more competitive league than the Russian one.

According to L’Équipe, Ounahi’s behavior is starting to seriously annoy the leaders of the Marseille club. And for good reason, the 25-year-old player rejects all the proposals made to him. Pushed towards the exit and in difficulty with the management of his club due to his rejected offers, Ounahi finds himself in a worrying situation. His contract with Marseille runs until June 2027.

Azzedine Ounahi wants to gain regularity during the 25-26 season in order to hope for a call-up to the 2026 World Cup squad. The Atlas Lion will therefore end up finding a club that suits him.
