Marrakech: The filmed scam of a fake guide turns into a fiasco
A viral video showing the extortion of a couple of tourists in the medina of Marrakech has prompted immediate police intervention. The fake guide has finally been arrested.
The General Directorate of National Security did not take long to take action. Alerted by a video widely shared on social media, the authorities apprehended the suspect filmed extorting a British tourist and his Philippine wife in the old town of Marrakech. The individual was immediately taken into custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.

The person in question, an individual known for his criminal record, was improvising as a guide without any authorization. What appeared to be a service offer quickly degenerated into financial blackmail under the threat of violence. The tourist brigade took over to inform and support the victims "in strict compliance with the legal procedures in force", allowing them to formally identify their aggressor.
