Marrakech Airport Scrambles to Handle 22,000 Passengers as Morocco-France Flights Set to Halt

It’s a flurry of activity at Marrakech airport. 120 flights will have to be managed before next Sunday at 11:59 p.m., the time when there will no longer be any flights between Morocco and France. As Marrakech is the main destination for French tourists, the airport authorities are doing their best to meet the high demand.
A very busy schedule for Marrakech airport between this Friday, November 26 and Sunday, November 28. 120 flights and more than 22,100 passengers to manage. Many are wondering whether to live the stress of traveling under such conditions or wait and risk being stranded in Morocco or France, with all the consequences. Many travelers have chosen to shorten their stay, reports Le360.
"Those travelers who have the possibility and the means can still travel between Morocco and France by opting for European stopovers like Lisbon and Madrid," explains a tourism operator in Marrakech, where operators fear serious repercussions on the sector as the end-of-year holidays approach.
According to Le360, a joint monitoring cell composed of representatives from the National Airports Office (ONDA), the local authorities of the city (Wilaya) and the French Consulate General, has been set up since Thursday evening in Marrakech. Its mission is to streamline traffic.
To recall, the Moroccan authorities have decided to suspend direct flights from France starting Sunday, November 28 at 11:59 p.m. According to the press release announcing this measure, it is to preserve the Kingdom’s achievements in managing the Covid-19 pandemic and to deal with the deterioration of the health situation in some neighboring European countries.
