Mantes-la-Ville Mosque Reopens After Court-Ordered Closure Over Unpaid Debts

Thursday 12 September 2024, by Sylvanus

Closed since the end of May on the decision of the Versailles administrative court, which had placed the Association of Muslims of Mantes South (AMMS) under judicial liquidation on April 23, the Mantes-la-Ville mosque is welcoming its worshippers again.

Since the beginning of September, the Mantes-la-Ville mosque has reopened its doors to the faithful following the suspension of the decision of the Versailles administrative court. This had decided to place the Association of Muslims of Mantes South (AMMS) under judicial liquidation on April 23. A decision motivated by an unpaid bill owed by the association, which had used the company AJS BAT to carry out major construction work in 2018. The association would be in "cessation of payment" and is "definitively burdened and proven to be unable to meet its debt." "Out of a total invoice of 204,000 €, we had paid 178,000 € and had refused to pay the remaining 26,000 € because the company, which had itself been liquidated at the time, had abandoned the site without completing the work," the AMMS said, assuring its faithful "of its good health and good financial management."

Last May, the AMMS made known that it had appealed the decision before the first president of the Versailles Court of Appeal to suspend the liquidation decision "given that the reason given to justify this decision is inaccurate." Pending the appeal hearing on the decision, scheduled for October 21, the suspension was ordered. A victory for the AMMS. "Long live the rule of law," it hailed. In the same order, the First President of the Versailles Court of Appeal dismissed the doubts about the legal existence of the association and the alleged financial problems. The judge ruled in our favor and dismissed all the opposing party’s claims.
