The Manchester police arrested and placed in custody on Saturday, November 7, a 41-year-old man suspected of a racist gesture during the Manchester derby.

The arrest of this forty-year-old follows the publication of a video that went viral on social media. In this video, a supporter appears to make a racist gesture during the football match between Manchester United and Manchester City (2-1).

In a statement, a Manchester police official, Chris Hill, hammered that no form of racism has a place in football or in society. He assured that the police will continue to collaborate with the two clubs on this matter, reports the AFP.

For its part, Manchester City club, through a statement, said it will cooperate with the police. Moreover, it intends to conduct an investigation into the throwing of objects onto the pitch, including water bottles.

"I hope it will be resolved and that it will never happen again. I trust the club and the police to make the right decision," Pep Guardiola, coach of the Citizens, said after the match.
