Man Rams Car into Colmar Mosque, Injures Self in Apparent Attack

A desperate act due to psychiatric disorders or gratuitous malice? The Judicial Police may turn the case in all directions, but they cannot determine the reasons why a man, at the wheel of his car, deliberately rammed a mosque. The man, according to the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Colmar, of which he is a native, has no criminal record, apart from traffic offenses committed many years ago.
This happened last Saturday at the Grand Mosque of Colmar in France. Alone in a Citroën C4, the man had rammed the mosque’s gate before deliberately projecting his car against the entrance door of the prayer hall, which was empty at the time.
According to Le muslim post, no one other than himself was injured. But curiously, after extracting himself from his vehicle, he inflicted several knife wounds on himself, which required surgical intervention.
Saturday evening, the Prosecutor of the Republic of Colmar, Catherine Sorita-Minard, had estimated that this man could suffer from "psychiatric problems".
An investigation for willful destruction, aggravated violence and attempted murder has been opened and entrusted to the Regional Directorate of the Judicial Police of the city of Strasbourg. The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor’s Office has been notified but the case remains under the jurisdiction of the Colmar Prosecutor’s Office.
