Man Dies After Arrest for Praying on Belgian Street, Sparking Controversy

A rather disconcerting scene took place in the Outremeuse district of Liège, in Belgium. An individual, presumably of Tunisian origin, caused a sense of panic among the local residents and the police services by praying on the public highway.
According to the Belgian media, the man was apprehended in a prostrate position by the police.
Taken to the police station, the young man suffered a heart attack, requiring his emergency transfer to the Liège hospital, where he died after spending 10 days in a coma.
For the police, who said they had received several calls from local residents, the victim’s arrest was not due to the prayer, but to the obstruction of traffic on the public highway.
