Major Paris Mosques Cancel Friday Prayers Amid Coronavirus Concerns

The Grand Mosque (GMP) of Paris and the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM) announced, on Monday, in a press release, that the Friday prayer will not be celebrated at the GMP and this, until further notice, due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic. Other major mosques could be affected by the same measure.
"Community prayers, especially those on Fridays, should be considered as gatherings to which the measures decided by the government apply, calling on mosques usually welcoming more than 1,000 worshippers to cancel the Friday prayer, failing to be able to control their numbers," the CFCM said.
The mosques that may be concerned can contact the competent prefectural services for consultation and the appropriate decision, the CFCM press release continues.
The Council also urged people over 70 years of age to refrain from going to mosques in the coming weeks. In particular, people suffering from serious illnesses.
