Major Moroccan Cannabis Trafficker Released in France Under Judicial Supervision

Sofiane Hambli, 45, one of the biggest traffickers of Moroccan cannabis and a police informant, regained his freedom on Tuesday. This is the decision of a judge of liberties and detention in Bobigny (Seine-Saint-Denis).

This judge placed Sofiane under judicial supervision with the obligation to report to the Bordeaux police station and to respond to court summons, reports Le Parisien. "The decision to release him is based on the law, explains his counsel Hugues Vigier, and it was only possible because we appeared before a real judge. I had no documents to provide, but I had a simple reasoning that I presented. The hearing lasted from 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm".

"The investigating judge believes that there is a beginning of execution because Sofiane Hambli would have received 2.5 million euros to implement a cannabis import project. I say no. It is not because his interlocutor claims it that he would have started to implement this project. For that, it would be necessary to demonstrate that my client has logistics, trucks and carriers in Morocco," he adds.

The forty-year-old had been indicted, last Saturday, for "attempted drug trafficking and criminal conspiracy to commit an offense punishable by 10 years’ imprisonment as a repeat offender". An indictment that follows his arrest by investigators from the narcotics brigade of the regional judicial police directorate in Paris. He would be involved in a project to import Moroccan cannabis, which links him to a suspected trafficker from Seine-Saint-Denis suspected of wanting to eliminate him. The latter had been arrested at his home on November 10, in the company of his girlfriend.
