Major Drug Bust: Customs Seize 2.4 Tons of Cannabis Worth €19 Million on French Highway

The customs officers of Bordeaux intercepted on the A63 motorway, near the Saugnac-et-Muret toll booth, on the border between the Landes and the Gironde, a truck coming from Spain which was transporting a large quantity of wheat and drugs carefully hidden in side compartments. A Moroccan couple was arrested and then detained.
The operation was carried out on the night of Sunday, January 29 to Monday, January 30, 2023 after the canine brigade dogs detected the drugs. The customs agents discovered 2.41 tons of cannabis resin and 9.75 kg of cannabis herb hidden "in specially fitted side compartments under the wheat load covering the entire trailer," reports Le Figaro. The value of the goods is estimated at more than 19 million euros.
A Moroccan couple was on board this truck already spotted about ten days ago in Cambrai, in the North. The two passengers were arrested and then taken into custody. After being brought before and presented to the investigating judge of the JIRS of Bordeaux, on Thursday, the two suspects were indicted for importing, trafficking and money laundering of drugs in an organized gang and participation in a criminal association. They were then remanded in custody.
