Major Drug Bust in Antwerp: 1.7 Tons of Cocaine Seized, Five Arrested

The Antwerp police in Belgium arrested a 28-year-old Moroccan man during an operation in a warehouse used for drug trafficking. Four other suspects were apprehended and 1.7 tons of cocaine were seized.
During a routine check several weeks ago, the police had discovered that several containers had been recovered without authorization in the port of Antwerp. An investigation had been opened and led the police to the trail of a transport company and a truck driver who was responsible for delivering the containers loaded with cocaine to various depots in Antwerp.
Once unloaded, the drugs were placed in cars equipped with hidden spaces to discreetly transport the goods.
During the raid on the depot, located in Aartselaar, in the Antwerp region, the police discovered 1,752 kilos of cocaine. Five people present on the premises, including a Moroccan, were arrested. Three suspects are from the Netherlands and the fourth person arrested is the owner of the warehouse, a Belgian national.
Thanks to the testimonies and the help of the port employees, the 37-year-old truck driver who was transporting the drugs to the warehouses was also located and arrested.
An investigation is still ongoing. The police do not rule out further arrests.
