Major Airlines Push for Reopening of Paris Orly Airport Amid COVID-19 Closure

While a dozen companies have signed a letter for the reopening of Orly airport, closed since March 31 due to covid-19, Royal Air Maroc has refrained from affixing its signature.
As part of this request, a letter should land this Friday on the desk of the Secretary of State for Transport, Jean-Baptiste Djebbari, reports the French press. Air Caraïbes, Air Corsica, Amelia, Chalair, Corsair, Frenchbee, La Compagnie, Level and Transavia have made this decision because they need visibility to relaunch their activities, blocked since the closure of the airspaces of certain countries.
According to the same source, the signatories of the letter do not want to be forced to transfer their flights to Roissy, an option that has since been considered. These companies fear the costs associated with the move. This option is also not to the liking of Transavia, a subsidiary of Air France.
As the leading carrier departing from Orly, the French low-cost airline has not given up on flying in Europe this summer, provided Italy, Spain and Portugal open their borders. With all its fleet grounded and facing multiple debts, due in part to the covid-19 crisis, RAM has not signed this correspondence.
With the Moroccan state, which is supposed to come to its aid, calling for patience, while waiting to settle the priorities of the moment, RAM is struggling to get out of the financial abyss in which it has become bogged down.
