Macron to Visit Algeria Amid Regional Tensions with Morocco and Spain

France seems well-disposed to play a mediating role in the crisis between Algeria, Morocco and Spain. French President Emmanuel Macron is expected in Algiers on August 25.
Does France want to reconcile Algeria with Morocco and Spain? The upcoming announced visit of the French president to Algeria could serve this purpose. Emmanuel Macron will travel to Algiers on August 25 next. Information confirmed by Patrick Durel, North Africa and Middle East Advisor to the French Head of State. On the agenda of this visit, a series of important regional issues - in particular the political tensions with Spain and Morocco concerning the Western Sahara issue - with the Algerian leaders.
According to some sources, Emmanuel Macron will propose to the Algerian authorities the organization of a "mini-summit" in Paris or another French city, in order to thaw the crisis between Algeria, Morocco and Spain due to the Western Sahara issue, reports Maghreb-Intelligence. The aim will be to discuss solutions whose implementation will help reconcile Algiers with Rabat and Madrid.
Already, several circles of the Algerian regime welcome the French mediation. According to many leaders in Algiers, talks with Madrid to "overcome misunderstandings and secure compromises favorable to Algeria’s interests" are "necessary". But the same leaders look askance at the invitation of Morocco to this possible "mini-summit". Until now, the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, has refused any mediation to resolve the diplomatic crisis between his country and Morocco. The mission could prove difficult for the French president.
