Macron Urges Unity as National Council of Imams Faces Setback

French President Emmanuel Macron is concerned about the future of the National Council of Imams, already cracked by the withdrawal, on December 28, of the Great Mosque of Paris. While inviting representatives of the Muslim faith to "overcome differences", he said he "remained confident in the process".
At the end of the presentation of wishes to representatives of religions, Mohammed Moussaoui of the National Council reported on the ceremony by returning to certain key remarks by the French head of state. According to Mohammed Moussaoui of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), Emmanuel Macron "called on the federations to overcome differences, come together and come out on top".
While recalling the importance of this national initiative, the French president said he "remained confident in the process", noted Pastor François Clavairoly, president of the Protestant Federation of France.
Faced with the scale of terrorist attacks in France, the Élysée has decided to regulate the training in France of imams through the creation of the National Council of Imams (CNI) project. Attempts to block negotiations in the drafting of a "charter of republican values" by the Islamist component are at the origin of the departure of the Great Mosque of Paris. This charter should be handed over to the government in early December.
For the rector of this mosque, this decision was "unilateral and unexplained".
