Macron Signals Tougher Stance on Immigration as France Prepares for National Debate

On RTL, the French Head of State made a point of addressing immigration, just as he had done a week earlier during a dinner at the Elysée. Considering this lack of interest among his fellow citizens, describing it as "cultural insecurity", Emmanuel Macron has invited his entourage to take a greater interest in this issue, whatever the cost.

By focusing on this issue, Macron intends to show the French that he is concerned about it to the point of "tightening his immigration policy." To this end, the President of the Republic is launching a debate on this topic in the National Assembly at the end of the month.

During this debate, the President is expected to take stock of his policy in this area. The critical intervention of the opposition is also expected to guide the Head of Government.

Given the cost of state medical assistance, estimated today at nearly one billion euros, the Government is about to revise it, even if, for the time being, this financial assistance aims to prevent epidemics and certain potentially serious pathologies.

Stanislas Guérini, the leader of "La République en Marche", believes that this social support is "a form of social tourism to obtain prostheses" before inviting the Government to limit the social scope of this aid.

The head of the ruling party applauds the initiative and justifies Emmanuel Macron’s decision. According to him, this issue should not be avoided, given its magnitude.

To this end, he recalls that up to the highest level, immigration is taken seriously, recalling the decision of the new President of the European Commission, who has appointed a High Commissioner for "the Protection of the European Way of Life" in Brussels. He will now be in charge of Immigration and Security.
