Macron Meets Muslim Leaders as France Adopts Islam Charter

The President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, will receive, on Monday, January 18, 2021, the leaders of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM). They have finally agreed on the "charter of principles" of Islam in France.
President Emmanuel Macron will receive on Monday the entire federations that make up the CFCM, who approved on Sunday the "charter of principles" of Islam in France, the Élysée announced. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin will also be present at this meeting.
This charter reaffirms in particular "the principle of equality between men and women" and the "compatibility" of the Muslim faith with the Republic, announced the CFCM in a press release. "The charter recalls that acts hostile to Muslims in France and the symbols of their faith are the work of an extremist minority that cannot be confused with either the State or the French people," said Mohammed Moussaoui, the president of the council.
This meeting comes at a time when the draft law reinforcing respect for the principles of the Republic is arriving in the National Assembly.
