Macron Calls Emergency Meeting on Pegasus Spyware Allegations

French President Emmanuel Macron convened an "exceptional defense council dedicated to the Pegasus affair and the issue of cybersecurity" this Thursday, July 22nd. The announcement was made by Gabriel Attal, the government spokesman.
Has one of the President of the Republic’s phones been selected by a Moroccan security service for possible surveillance by the Pegasus spyware? Morocco rejects these accusations and denounces a conspiracy implemented, it says, to undermine its relations with France.
On France Inter, the government spokesman said that "the President of the Republic is closely following this file and takes this matter very seriously". He stated that France was pursuing its investigations following the revelations about the Pegasus software, by a consortium of sixteen editorial offices, including Le Monde, led by Forbidden Stories.
The Prime Minister, Jean Castex, had stated on Wednesday that the government had "ordered a whole series of investigations" to shed light on the Pegasus affair. Morocco, which denies any use of the software from the Israeli firm NSO for espionage purposes, has promised, for its part, an investigation into the "unfounded accusations".
