Macron and Morocco's King Discuss Plan for Unaccompanied Minors

French President Emmanuel Macron and King Mohammed VI have engaged in discussions on the issue of unaccompanied minors (UAMs) arriving in France. This is at least what the Rennes (LREM) deputy, Florian Bachelier, close to the current Keeper of the Seals, Éric Dupont-Moretti, affirmed.

"I can confirm that there are discussions between President Macron and the King of Morocco for a reception, training and care center to be created directly in Morocco in order to take care of them (UAMs) in their country," he said in an interview with the French newspaper Le Télégramme. For the elected official, the issue of these foreign minors to whom an increase in delinquency in Brittany or elsewhere in France is attributed is a challenge that is being thrown at the entire public authority.

"That is to say both to local and national representatives," he explains. "From the beginning, I have been pushing for this issue to be addressed before these minors arrive in France. This is what President Macron is doing. We are working upstream on the conclusion of agreements with the so-called sending countries. Our goal is to stem human trafficking before they arrive in Brittany, in Rennes."

Mr. Bachelier also assures that he is also campaigning for delinquent minors to be welcomed in centers where they can serve a cause that transcends them in order to divert them from the path of delinquency. "This is also one of the solutions we are working on with the Keeper of the Seals. Strengthening the means of justice is one thing. This will not exempt us from being imaginative," concludes the Rennes deputy.
