Lyon Imposes Strict Measures for Eid al-Adha Amid COVID-19 Concerns

Like other cities in the world, Lyon is gearing up to host the celebration of Aid El Adha in a particular context of the covid-19 health crisis. Pending this date, the prefectural authorities have issued strong measures to frame this annual celebration of the sacrifice.
These new measures applicable during the period from July 10 to August 14 are contained in a prefectural decree, reports Lyon-Mag. According to this decree "the transport and delivery of cattle, sheep and goats are prohibited outside approved slaughterhouses and regularly declared livestock breeding sites (EDE).
The same document also prohibits "the donation or sale of animals of these species to persons other than livestock professionals". The possession of these live animals by persons not declared as breeders to the EDE is also prohibited.
According to the prefecture, "the slaughters will be organized in consultation with the Grand Mosque of Lyon, the Regional Council of the Muslim Cult and the Muslim associations".
