Lekhedim’s Heartfelt Journey: From Spanish Club to Moroccan National Team
Moroccan international Youssef Lekhedim has reflected on his decision to defend the colors of Morocco, the country of origin of his mother.
"Joining the Atlas Lions was a way to thank my mother for everything she has done for me. I knew how much she dreamed of seeing me defend the colors of Morocco," Youssef confided in an interview with the official channel of Deportivo Alavés, the club where he plays.
The 22-year-old player acknowledges that his mother has a great influence on his career. "My mother has a strong temperament, a real fighter. It is from her that I get this mental strength and this desire to surpass myself in every game," he added.
Youssef Lekhedim did not fail to emphasize his attachment to his Moroccan roots. "I feel deeply Moroccan. This choice is a way to honor my roots and to realize the dream of my family. It is not just a career decision, it is a part of me."
The Atlas Lion, who also thanked his father for "his constant support," also expressed his pride in representing Morocco. "Playing my first game with the first team was a unique moment. This is the beginning of a great adventure that I want to fully live under the colors of Morocco."
