Lawyer for Controversial Imam Faces Death Threats Amid Deportation Case

Lawyer Lucie Simon, who defends the rights of Moroccan imam Hassan Iquioussen, threatened with expulsion by the Minister of the Interior, has just filed a complaint following numerous threatening and insulting messages. An investigation is underway.
The investigation opened, in particular for death threats against a lawyer, has been entrusted to the brigade for the repression of delinquency against persons (BRDP). The complaint was filed several days ago by Me Lucie Simon against X for endangerment, threats and cyberbullying.
"Since the announcement on Twitter by Gérald Darmanin, of the Interior Ministry’s desire to expel Hassan Iquioussen, our colleague is personally the target of a vile outpouring of hatred and insults, due solely to her status as a lawyer," her lawyers, Nino Arnaud and Romain Ruiz, had denounced on Tuesday.
The Minister of the Interior has initiated the procedure for the expulsion of the preacher said to be close to the Muslim Brotherhood, for calls to hatred and violence against the Jewish community. But the administrative court of Paris suspended on August 5 this request, considering that this expulsion would constitute a "disproportionate interference" with the "private and family life" of the 57-year-old imam, born in France but of Moroccan nationality.
The Ministry of the Interior has appealed this decision, which the Council of State will examine this Friday, August 26.
