Kylian Mbappé gives a lesson to Brahim Diaz
French striker Kylian Mbappé scored a penalty with a panenka on Saturday evening during Real Madrid’s victory over Villarreal (0-2). This technical choice, successful in the eyes of his teammate Brahim Diaz, comes a week after the Moroccan international’s failure in the same exercise during the final of the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
While Brahim Diaz has been the target of criticism since his missed penalty against Senegal, Mbappé wanted to show his solidarity with him in a different way. After scoring his second goal of the evening, the captain of the French national team immediately embraced his teammate, addressing him the words "For you, for you!", according to the images captured by the broadcaster Movistar. At the end of the match, Mbappé confirmed to the media that this was an explicit gesture of support.
Brahim Diaz, who came on as a substitute at the end of the match, had published a message of apology on his social networks at the beginning of the week, claiming to take "full responsibility" for his failure in the continental final. This return to the Liga pitches, marked by the gesture of his teammate, comes in a climate of media pressure for the 26-year-old player.
Thanks to this away victory, the Madrid club temporarily takes the lead in the Spanish championship. The Merengues now have a two-point lead over FC Barcelona, who will host Oviedo this Sunday at 4:15 pm.
