Jean-Claude Dassier banned from CNews and Europe 1 airwaves after comments on Maghrebis

Jean-Claude Dassier has been removed from CNews and Europe 1 after making comments deemed intolerable on imprisoned foreigners. The commentator had suggested rejecting them into the Mediterranean, leading to his immediate suspension until further notice.

During the "100% Politique" program aired in February, the former OM executive caused an uproar by declaring: "We throw them in... we put them in the Mediterranean, where do we put them?". He argued that Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia refused to take back their convicted nationals.

The channel and the radio station have formalized his suspension, stating that these statements were unacceptable. Although the presenter Gauthier Le Bret firmly reprimanded his commentator live by telling him "what you are saying is horrible", the management decided to sanction this slip-up.

This removal comes in a climate of increased scrutiny by the audiovisual regulator. Collectives like Sleeping Giants have announced their intention to refer the matter to Arcom, which has already fined CNews 100,000 euros in early 2025 for inciting discrimination.

Jean-Claude Dassier, 84, accumulates controversies and convictions. In early 2025, the courts had fined him with a suspended sentence for stating on air that "Muslims, they don’t care about the Republic", comments already deemed hostile by the courts.
