Ireland to Open Embassy in Morocco, Boosting African Trade Relations

Simon Coveney, Ireland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has announced that his country will open a new embassy in Morocco by the end of this year at the latest to support the growth of trade in Africa.
Diplomatic relations between Morocco and Ireland, which are in good shape, are already bearing fruit. After the April meeting between Nasser Bourita, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Moroccans Residing Abroad, and his counterpart Simon Coveney, things have moved quickly. In line with the will of the two parties, an embassy will soon be established in Rabat.
In a statement during the celebration of Africa Day, Simon Coveney said there would be further expansion in the years to come as trade and investment grew in both directions.
The minister said he would present a report to the government this week detailing the first year of implementation of the strategy for Africa. A report showing that Ireland’s exports to Africa amounted to 4.85 billion euros in 2019, an increase of 36% compared to 2018.
Irish diplomacy has now expanded to 12 embassies. The government has committed to opening three new embassies in North and Francophone West Africa by 2025, including in Rabat, Morocco, this year.
