International Drug Trafficking Ring Exposed: Morocco to Belgium Cannabis Smuggling Case Unfolds

Two men suspected of having participated in at least one go-fast between Morocco and Belgium and, arrested on October 22, 2018 near Bayonne, were kept in prison, while they were asking, on Wednesday, August 21, 2019, for their release.
The results of the latest investigations do not actually allow these two defendants to be cleared. Indeed, after the discovery by the investigators of 250 kg of cannabis resin, hidden in two cars, on March 12, 2018, in an isolated farm in Saint-Georges-des-Gardes, in the Mauges, an investigating judge in Angers, seized of the case, decided to open a judicial investigation.
Thus, thanks to telephone tappings set up, vehicles were tracked, suspects identified and followed to the trace, thanks to geolocation techniques, reports Courrier de l’ouest. Through this arsenal put in place, it was found that the group of traffickers made six to seven round trips, in a few months, between Morocco and Belgium, via the Mauges and Cholet. Thus, the members of the group were procuring cannabis resin in Morocco before importing and distributing it in France and Belgium, indicates the same source.
The outcome of this investigation also made it possible to seize a go-fast and four individuals in possession of 152 kg of cannabis resin. On Wednesday, August 21, 2019, the driver of the lead car, supposed to warn of the presence of the law enforcement, and the driver of the "sweep" car asked for their release.
However, the arguments of their lawyers could not convince the judges of the investigation chamber who simply decided to keep them in detention.
