Instagram Influencer’s Account Suspended After Controversial Palestine Comments Spark Outrage

The influencer with over a million followers on Instagram, Poupette Kenza, finds herself at the center of a heated controversy after making remarks deemed anti-Semitic. In a story posted on May 15, 2024, she unequivocally expressed her support for the Palestinian cause, while specifying that she does not work with "any partner, any agent who is Jewish or anything."
These statements provoked a wave of outrage, particularly within the Jewish community and anti-racism organizations. Aurore Bergé, the minister in charge of the fight against discrimination, firmly condemned these remarks on Twitter, reminding that "boycotting women and men because of their identity or religion is of course illegal."
Faced with the scale of the controversy, Poupette Kenza tried to rectify the situation in a new video. She assured that she has "nothing against the Jews," but maintained her opposition to "Zionists and those who finance the genocide." Justifications that did not convince, especially since her Instagram account was temporarily deactivated, before being reactivated with new written apologies.
In these apologies, Kenza Benchrif, her real name, acknowledges a "serious but unintentional fault." She also criticizes the reaction of the Dilcrah, the government body against racism and anti-Semitism, considering that she is being "instrumentalized for political purposes."
The influencer also claims to be a victim of "an unprecedented wave of hatred, violence and harassment, accompanied by death and rape threats."
