Inmate Escapes During Consulate Visit in Final Months of 15-Year Sentence
Saturday 21 December 2024, by
While serving the last months of a 15-year sentence handed down in Essonne at the Poissy prison, an inmate uses subterfuges to escape during an appointment at the Moroccan consulate in Pontoise. He is the subject of an investigation for organized prison escape, entrusted to the Brigade for the Repression of Banditry in Versailles.
The scene took place on Friday late in the morning in the premises of the Moroccan consulate in Pontoise. An inmate from the central prison of Poissy, the penitentiary establishment of the Yvelines reserved for long sentences, had been taken there to carry out administrative procedures. Once on site, he managed to deceive the vigilance of the prison administration supervisors. He asked to smoke a cigarette on the sidewalk and took the opportunity to flee, reports Le Parisien. The 43-year-old man rushed into a waiting car and fled. He was not handcuffed.
The Pontoise court has relinquished the case. The Versailles prosecutor’s office is taking over. An investigation for organized prison escape has been opened and entrusted to the Brigade for the Repression of Banditry in Versailles, in joint custody with the SIPJ 95.
The inmate had been sentenced to 15 years for homicide handed down in Essonne. He was serving the last months of this sentence before planning his escape. Currently, the law enforcement authorities are trying to identify his accomplices and hideouts that could welcome him, particularly among his relatives.
