Imam Wounded in Shooting Attack on Brest Mosque, Muslim Group Condemns Violence

The Rassemblement des Musulmans de France (RMF) strongly condemned the shots that targeted the "Assounnah" Mosque in Brest. As a result, the imam, Rachid El Jay, and another worshiper were injured.
"The RMF strongly condemns this unprecedented Islamophobic aggression. The RMF reiterates its deep concern at the resurgence of anti-Muslim acts, in particular since the tragic events of Christchurch in New Zealand," it is stated in a press release issued by the Oumma website.
Calling on the authorities to shed light on this attack, the RMF is keen to welcome the decision of the Minister of the Interior to strengthen security around places of worship.
"Our services are mobilized to apprehend the author of the gunshots that injured 2 people, in front of the mosque of Pontanézen, in #Brest. I asked the Prefects to strengthen the surveillance of places of worship in the country," Christophe Castaner wrote on his Twitter account yesterday.
Following this terrorist act, the RMF calls on Muslims in France to remain calm and serene. Similarly, it asks them not to respond to provocations and attacks, wherever they come from.
To recall, yesterday, Thursday, June 27, 2019, a man who was in a car fired several shots in the direction of the mosque before fleeing. He was found a little later with a bullet in the head, which would be the result of a suicide.
