Imam Arrested at Marseille Airport for Alleged Anti-Semitic Facebook Post

Suspected of having published anti-Semitic remarks on his Facebook page, an imam from Beaucaire (Gard) was arrested at Marseille Provence airport (Bouches-du-Rhône) and then placed in custody.
The arrest of Imam Yassin El Himer took place in the night from Monday to Tuesday, reports Cnews, adding that he is suspected of apologizing for terrorism. The 1990-born Nîmes (Gard) native is accused of calling for combat against Jews and their murder in a post on his Facebook page on October 12, 2023, five days after the attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas against Israel. Information confirmed by Midi Libre which reports that the Muslim dignitary was returning from Jordan the night of his arrest. After his arrest, he was still in custody on Tuesday. The thirty-year-old is the author of the post of a photo of the Al Qods mosque flying a Palestinian flag, accompanied by the text: "O Allah, bring us back to your religion and give us back Palestine and the Al-Aqsa mosque as they were."
A report to the Nîmes public prosecutor by the prefect of the Gard led to the arrest of Imam Yassin El Himer. Since 2020, he has been officiating at the Al Mouhsinine mosque in Beaucaire. According to the mayor of the city, Julien Sanchez, no form of radicalization has been detected in this place of worship, reports francebleu.
