Illegal Beauty Treatments Shut Down: Rogue Esthetician Performed Risky Laser and Dental Procedures

The prefecture of Val-d’Oise has just issued an order to suspend the activities of a beauty institute in Goussainville that was operating illegally.
Esthetician Yamina offered services in her salon that are normally the domain of medicine. Customers came to have their teeth whitened, their skin cleaned with laser, or to have a tattoo removed. Following complaints from two clients, the prefecture issued an immediate order to suspend the institute’s activities. According to the prefecture, the Goussainville esthetician "was practicing outside the scope of her professional training, endangering the health of her clients (burns, redness, inflammation, etc.)".
One of the salon’s clients complained of pain after whitening sessions. Another also complained of "persistent pain in the cheeks" after a "carbon peel", a facial treatment combining a charcoal mask and laser. Investigations by the departmental directorate for the protection of populations (DDPP) revealed that Yamina was illegally performing services such as permanent laser hair removal, "tattoo removal", etc. The prices for these services ranged from 50 euros to hundreds of euros.
"All these activities must be performed at a minimum under the supervision of a doctor, which is absolutely not the case with this esthetician," noted the DDPP, recalling that "only dentists can perform teeth whitening with hydrogen peroxide concentrations. The practice is strictly regulated." However, the clients said they were satisfied with the esthetician’s services. "I came from Lyon for a teeth whitening that I had done with Yamina, and I’m really delighted!... I recommend it 200%," testified a customer on social media.
The authorities now intend to strengthen controls and put an end to the anarchy in this aesthetic sector. "This poses a real public health problem," the DDPP in charge of the case told Parisien.
