IKEA Takes Legal Action Against Far-Right Party for Trademark Infringement in Immigration Campaign

The Swedish furniture store chain, IKEA, has filed a complaint against the Flemish far-right party, Vlaams Belang, for having used its name in its latest communication campaign.
Vlaams Belang has indeed launched a new communication campaign to promote a tightening of immigration policy. Its name? IKEA, for "Immigratie Kan Echt Anders" (Immigration can really be decided differently). This is a distortion that is not to the liking of the brand’s managers in Belgium, reports Belga.
The company has also denounced the use by this political formation of its blue and yellow colors, as well as the smiling characters of its assembly instructions. Considering this as a violation of its image, the Swedish giant declared on Monday that it "firmly disapproves of the use of IKEA brands and visual identity in the party’s political communication."
Reacting to this manipulation, Inter IKEA Systems, the global franchisor and owner of the IKEA brand, announced legal action against the political party.
