Hundreds of Qurans Mysteriously Distributed Across Liège, Belgium; Police Investigate

On Saturday, April 19, in the morning, hundreds of small-format copies of the Quran translated into French were discovered in several neighborhoods of Liège. These books were placed on car windshields and in mailboxes. Following reports from citizens, the Liège police opened an investigation and the State Security was contacted.
The discoveries were reported by residents in various areas of the city, including Droixhe, Coronmeuse, Bressoux, Longdoz, Outremeuse, as well as on Churchill and Marcellis Quays, according to Belga. Copies were also found in mailboxes.
According to the information provided, at least one person involved in this distribution was seen getting into a vehicle registered in Germany, which then headed towards Germany. The police are currently identifying the vehicle owner and plan to contact the German police to arrange an interview to determine the motivations behind this act. Two people were reportedly seen depositing the books, and surveillance camera footage is being analyzed.
At this stage of the investigation, no offense has been identified by the police. There was no threat associated with this distribution. However, the Liège Prosecutor’s Office indicated that placing the Quran on a windshield, exposing it to the elements, "could be considered sacrilege" by people of Muslim faith. The motivations of the people who carried out this distribution remain unknown.
