Human Rights Group Condemns Ex-Charlie Hebdo Journalist’s Call for ’Live Ammunition’ Against Protesters

Zineb El Rhazoui’s remarks on CNews are not to the liking of the League of Human Rights (LDH), which condemns them rigorously. The former Charlie Hebdo journalist, on this channel, indeed called, on November 5th, for the use of "live ammunition" against young people from working-class neighborhoods, referring to a confrontation with the police in Mantes-la-Jolie.
The League of Human Rights (LDH), in its press release, considers Zineb El Rhazoui’s remarks, the one who compared Islam to the Nazi occupier, "as provocation to murder, an offense punishable and repressed by Article 24 1° of the press law".
According to the same press release, firearms cannot be used in the context of a simple confrontation, regardless of the violence it would entail.
While recalling the particular context of the city of Mantes-la-Jolie, plagued by poverty and victim of inappropriate and condemnable reactions from the police authorities, the League maintains that the columnist’s remarks "are part of a logic of progressive overstepping of an outrageous language and thought increasingly conveyed in the traditional media". "These remarks," according to the League, "thus promote violent acts."
"While the LDH has always been concerned with the protection of freedom of expression, it must not be diverted to promote violent and vindictive ideologies," argues the human rights organization.
Aware that the mere denunciation of the activist is no longer enough to "put an end to it," the League calls on the Paris Public Prosecutor and the Higher Audiovisual Council to ensure that "legal proceedings are initiated" against the Franco-Moroccan.
