Hamza Igamane on fire with Lille: his teammates already compare him to Ronaldo

Moroccan striker Hamza Igamane is making a very remarkable debut with his new club Lille. His performances have quickly triggered prestigious comparisons, first humorous, but now starting to be taken seriously within the locker room itself.

Arrived this summer from Rangers for 12 million euros, after a tense transfer, Igamane has immediately made an impression. He has scored seven goals in his first eleven games in all competitions, including three in the Europa League. This efficiency has led the Ligue 1 account X to publish an image of him with the iconic hairstyle of the Brazilian Ronaldo during the 1998 World Cup.

This flattering comparison is not entirely devoid of meaning, according to his teammate Calvin Verdonk. The defender confirmed seeing similarities. "He’s a fantastic player who does incredible things," he said, before adding: "When I compare him, he reminds me of Ronaldo (R9). He has a similar style. Hamza is an incredible player."

An impact welcomed by his coach Bruno Genesio

The Lille coach, Bruno Genesio, also welcomed the integration of his new recruit, while remaining measured. "Hamza works well. He arrived late, there is a small adaptation time," he explained, praising the player’s attitude. "He’s someone who listens, who works, who makes a lot of effort. He’s started very well."

Genesio added that the management of Igamane’s playing time, sometimes as a substitute, was going well, stressing that the substitutes were performing well at Lille and that all players would have the opportunity to express themselves. "There is no problem, he listens. We talk to him a lot," the coach concluded.
