The Guardia Civil accuses the Royal Moroccan Navy of helping drug traffickers

Patrol boats of the Royal Moroccan Navy would collaborate with drug traffickers in the Strait of Gibraltar to smuggle hashish into Spain.
Images provided by the Guardia Civil and accessed by El Español show the deck of a Moroccan patrol boat loaded with hashish bales destined for drug traffickers who then introduce them into Spain on semi-rigid boats. These photos were obtained as part of an investigation conducted in 2020 by the Drug Trafficking Coordination Body (OCON-South) and the special command of the Civil Guard in charge of the fight against drug trafficking in the strait, which no longer exists since 2022, it is specified.
The investigators obtained these images after wiretapping and analyzing the phone of one of the drug traffickers arrested in recent years. This information made it possible to prove that this patrol boat of the Royal Moroccan Navy "served as a mother ship to the Spanish narco-boats and pleasure boats" dedicated to drug trafficking, details the investigation report. This collaboration between Moroccan patrol boats and drug traffickers "had never been proven. It is an unprecedented discovery," investigators said.
The drug trafficker whose phone these images were found on confirmed to investigators during an interrogation that it was indeed a ship of the Royal Moroccan Navy and that the agents had to ensure their "cover". Morocco often renews its agents deployed in the coastal areas to avoid any complicity with drug traffickers. But the phenomenon persists. "This trade is very lucrative and it is easy to corrupt the personnel working in the region," it is pointed out.
