Glory Kickboxing: Beztati vs Kwasi Ends in Controversial Draw, Delaying Historic Title Bid

New disappointment for kickboxer Tyjani Beztati. His quest for a historic double at Glory once again hit a draw against his rival and compatriot Chico Kwasi, welterweight champion, Friday night in Miami.
As in October, the judges could not designate a winner, leaving Kwasi to retain his belt but triggering a heated controversy around this event organized in an atmosphere deemed disappointing.
Beztati, already king of the lightweights, aimed to match Alex Pereira, the only fighter to have held two Glory titles simultaneously. But the outcome of the fight left a taste of unfinished business. Kwasi, laughing bitterly, conceded: "I’m not happy about this. [...] We’ll just have to do it a third time." A prospect that did not appease Beztati, furious: "Let me be very fucking honest. Respect for Chico, but apart from the second round, all rounds were mine. I won this fight." The Amsterdam native also broods over the eight count he received in the second round, after going to the ground, an incident similar to the already contested one in their first duel.
The evening itself caused teeth to grind. Organized in a warehouse in Miami, in front of only a hundred guests, far from Glory’s usual standards, it aimed to seduce the American public with the help of Jake Paul’s company (himself absent). A failed bet, according to former star Remy Bonjasky, who did not hesitate to harshly criticize the setting: "It hurts to say, but this is really a low point for Glory. [...] That guys like Tyjani and Chico have to fight in such a small room. Pff... It’s bad, huh." Bonjasky also regrets that this top clash did not take place in the Netherlands, in front of fans who know the history between the two rivals.
