Ghaleb Bencheikh Re-elected to Lead Foundation of Islam of France Amid Delays

It’s the end of a long wait that lasted six months. At the end of a board meeting held on Thursday, June 10, Ghaleb Bencheikh, a candidate for his own succession, was elected president of the Foundation of Islam of France (FIF).
The Islamologist Ghaleb Bencheikh has therefore been reappointed for a four-year term, by 10 votes out of 1l. He beat Sadek Beloucif, supported by the Great Mosque of Paris.
Since December 2020, the board of directors of the institution has been postponed several times, proof of the imbroglio in which this prestigious tool, set up in 2016 but which, for lack of means, has not yet fully taken off.
Ghaleb Bencheikh aims to make the Muslim religion and civilization better known to a wide audience, however regretting that the structure remains under-endowed by the State.
"We must continue to work. It is a secular priesthood that I assume to take on, because I do not want my religious tradition and my country to be in a pre-civil war situation. I take my responsibilities," he reacted, relieved by the outcome of the meeting.
The position of treasurer of the FIF went to the rector of the Great Mosque of Lyon, Kamel Kabtane.
