Gérard Depardieu Reveals Past as Practicing Muslim, Discusses Religious Journey

Gérard Depardieu has a great interest in all religions, and particularly in Islam. Openly speaking about his changing faith, the film producer declares that he feels very good in a mosque when he happens to go there.
Gérard Depardieu claims to have been a Muslim for two years; it was in the 1970s, specifies the French theater producer, to the magazine Le Point, adding that he was a practicing Muslim, embracing the precepts of Islam. "I was a Muslim for two years in the 1970s. It was difficult, the five daily prayers of Islam, the prohibition of eating pork, which is, between us, not fundamental," he had opened up to Le Parisien recently, reports the same source.
In this belief, not everything was beautiful for the director, who does not hide his regrets, particularly that of not having had the opportunity to learn the Arabic language.
Even though since September 2020 he has decided to be baptized into the Orthodox Christian religion, the singer continues to have a great interest in the Muslim religion.
"When I’m in Saudi Arabia or Algeria, I sometimes go to mosques. I feel very good there," he declares. For Gérard Depardieu, "to have faith is a gift, it must be taken care of."
For the record, Gérard Depardieu, born on December 27, 1948 in Châteauroux, is a French actor, singer, director, film, television and theater producer. He is also a winemaker and businessman. Since 2013, he has also held Russian nationality.
