Gad Elmaleh Clarifies Faith Amid Conversion Rumors After Film Release

Moroccan-Canadian comedian and actor Gad Elmaleh responds to rumors about his alleged conversion to Christianity.
His film "Reste un peu", released in November 2022, in which the character he plays abandons Judaism for Christianity, makes people believe that Gad Elmaleh has converted to Christianity. In an interview on the Legend show, he assures that this is not the case. He specifies that he is "not converted" to Christianity and that he has "not requested baptism". The comedian explained that he is "very open to faith". However, he regrets that "the fact of being open in this fraternity and going towards brothers and sisters of other religions does not please many people".
Gad was born on April 19, 1971 into a Moroccan Jewish family in Casablanca. As a child in Casablanca, he had entered a church and discovered a statue of the Virgin Mary there. "I have an education in a Moroccan Jewish family, I grew up in a Muslim country, I have, thank God, in Morocco and in this Judeo-Arab culture, known real fraternity," added the actor. And to confide: "Today, I am educating myself. I have taken courses at the Collège des Bernardins and I am taking Torah lessons".
