Fugitive Suspect Faces Retrial in 2010 Seine-Saint-Denis Canal Murder Case

Dan Lampel is on trial again before the Assize Court of Seine-Saint-Denis since Monday, November 18 for the homicide of Saïd Bourarach, whose body was found in the Ourcq canal in Bobigny.

Dan Lampel is one of the four accused of the murder and appears again because he had evaded justice in 2015 by fleeing to Israel before the end of the trial. Thus, in his absence, he had been sentenced to 9 years in prison, reports Le Parisien.

So, four years after an initial verdict, the Assize Court of Seine-Saint-Denis is returning to the tragic death of Saïd Bourarach. And, he asked to appear again before the judge in charge of the case.

The tragedy dates back to March 2010. At the origin of this murder, Saïd Bourarach, a security guard at the Batkor store in Bobigny, who had refused to let Dan Lampel, a regular customer of the store, enter. Faced with this refusal, Lampel went to get reinforcements: his brother, his uncle Lucien Dadoun and a fourth man to settle the score with the security guard. Very quickly, the brawl resulted in Bourarach’s death. Pursued by the gang, he had plunged into the canal behind the store, according to the account of the facts.

From then on, Lampel and his three accomplices were prosecuted for intentional violence resulting in involuntary homicide. The four accused had received sentences ranging from 4 to 9 years in prison. Two of them had served their time. As for Dan Lampel, he was finally extradited at the beginning of the year and incarcerated. And the trial opened on Monday, November 18, 2019. As for his uncle, he is still on the run. For their part, Saïd Bourarach’s family wants justice to be done.
