Fuel Prices Surge 5.2% in Morocco Despite Stable Consumer Price Index

Fuel prices rose by 5.2%, despite the stability of the consumer price index observed between February and March 2019.
Despite the variations observed at the sectoral level, the overall CPI in March 2019 did not record any movement compared to the previous month, following a 0.3% drop in the food products index and a 0.2% increase in the non-food products index.
While fruits increased by 0.4%, fish and seafood recorded the largest decline in food products, with -2.6%, followed by vegetables -1.3%, and oils and fats -0.9%. Fuels, on the other hand, jumped by 5.2%, recording the largest increase in non-food products.
In comparable data, the consumer price index in March 2019 fell by 0.1% compared to the same month in 2018, as a result of the 1.8% drop in the food products indicator and the 1.1% increase in the non-food products index, knowing that education recorded the largest increase with 3.4%.
