French Winemaker Jailed for Employing Undocumented Moroccan Workers

The Narbonne criminal court sentenced, this Monday, March 4, a 30-year-old man to eight months in prison for having employed Moroccan workers in an irregular situation in a wine estate.
The case began in December 2023, during a check carried out by the departmental anti-fraud operational committee. Undocumented workers flee at the arrival of the law enforcement, reports L’Indépendant.
On January 16, a new check is carried out. This time, three out of eight foreign workers do not have a work permit. They mention the name of an employer who, contacted by the investigators, only provides them with an old address before disappearing.
The home of the accused is finally searched. The investigators find 800 € in cash, a mobile phone and elements proving his links with the incriminated company.
The man, of Spanish nationality, denied being at the head of this company during his police custody and at the court hearing. He was nevertheless sentenced to eight months in prison.
