French Wheat Exports Surge as Global Demand Shifts Amid Ukraine War

French wheat exports reached a record level in the 3rd quarter. Morocco, one of its traditional customers, has received more of it.
The war in Ukraine and the favorable weather for harvests are benefiting French wheat producers. They are exporting more wheat to meet global demand. "It can be Indonesia, it can be countries that are new to us because generally they are the preserve of Russia and Ukraine," declares Laurent Vittoz, CEO of Valfrance, to France Info. French wheat exports increased by more than 106% in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same period last year.
Faced with the difficulty of sourcing from Ukraine, buyers are placing orders with France. The latter is being very attentive. "France has consolidated its traditional customers with an acceleration of flows to Algeria, to Morocco [...] ", explains Arthur Portier, Agritel consultant. However, this dynamic could slow down due to the lack of seed.
