French Travelers Stranded in Morocco Face New Hurdles for Return

While Morocco has authorized ferry rotations on July 15, residents or tourists blocked in the kingdom for more than four months are facing the impossibility of reaching the port of Sète. And for good reason, they cannot produce a PCR test performed 72 hours before boarding.
The initial difficulties for these French were related to ferry postponements or even cancellations and rumors. "We were told that the port of Sète is closed. Is that true?" they ask. "No, the port is not closed. Everything that is planned is arriving. We don’t know where this rumor is coming from," responds the harbor master of the port of Sète.
In the eyes of Philippe Morizet, his wife and other French people still stuck in Morocco, producing a PCR test performed 72 hours before boarding is "a unilateral decision made by the prefect of Hérault". What annoys them the most is the unavailability of this test at a time when many of them had already bought non-refundable tickets, reports Midi Libre.
"We are cash cows for the GNV company. It’s lamentable. We are hyper-stressed. It’s a disaster. We’re afraid it will all end badly. People are going to crack. It’s unacceptable to leave people abandoned like this," laments Philippe Morizet. For its part, GNV says that Morocco has "required the implementation of on-board testing procedures" in addition to the PCR test "to be presented to allow boarding".
Faced with this situation, some French people have contacted the embassy, their deputy and the Senate. Others like Philippe Morizet have booked a ferry ticket... for Italy.
