French RV Travelers Stranded in Morocco as Border Closures Extend Stay

Danielle and her husband are among the French motorhome travelers who have repeatedly bought tickets, hoping to return home by boat, but continue to breathe the air in Marrakech, torn between hope, anger and disappointment.

In the absence of official information to explain the situation, rumors are circulating and creating more doubt and confusion. In a telephone interview with lemondeducampingcar.fr, Danielle stated that she had come to Morocco for a month and a half and found herself faced with the unexpected closure of the borders.

Since then, she has been able to exchange her return ticket, then book another ticket. She was still hoping to leave Morocco, before learning that the boats were canceled. On the evening of May 13, the ferry scheduled for May 19 was postponed to May 26 "for logistical reasons, and the one scheduled for June 1, which was to take Danielle, is suspended. "Today, it’s hard to believe in anyone or anything. Everything keeps changing. We’ve had I don’t know how many tickets. It’s canceled, it’s postponed; it’s complicated to get an idea. We register everywhere, we do everything we need to. But nothing is clear," Danielle recounts, very disappointed.

She explains that she is in the dark about how the crossings are scheduled and then canceled, and especially the selection criteria for those who have to travel. "After the boat on April 20, which we didn’t get, there were those on May 4 and 5. Yet we were told that there would be no boat in May. We positioned ourselves on June 1. But it worries me a bit because for the last two days, I no longer see it on the GNV programming. Then there were two boats scheduled for May 8 and 16, but we couldn’t see them on the company’s website. They were postponed to May 12 and 19. We wonder how the passengers of these crossings were selected," explains Danielle, who adds that if at least, in the midst of all these cancellations, there were official information to calm the ardor, and especially the disappointment that takes precedence over hope, the wait can be easily managed, reports lemondeducampingcar.fr.

For her and the others waiting to leave, "what is very painful is not having a date. They sell you tickets, without knowing if these crossings will take place. It’s outrageous." Danielle thinks that even if the motorhome travelers came to Morocco of their own free will, they did not create the current situation and they have no right to mistreat them in this way. "They shouldn’t sell tickets until they’re sure. We end up with a coupon, because in the end, they don’t refund you."

Danielle still hopes to return home. She calls on the authorities to speak out on the situation so that motorhome travelers stop getting information through rumors that sow enough confusion.
