French Tourists Opt for Domestic Travel, Shun Morocco Amid Pandemic

Contrary to previous years, the majority of French people plan to spend their summer holidays in France and not in Morocco, one of their favorite destinations, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is revealed by a survey of 2,000 people conducted jointly by the 13 metropolitan regions.
This survey shows that 86% of the French, compared to 75% in 2019, prefer to stay in their country (mainland, Corsica and overseas) this summer. BVA-Entreprises du Voyage conducted another survey of 1,055 people and gathered almost the same opinions: 59% of the French want to go on vacation this summer, and more than four-fifths of them will choose metropolitan France.
In travel agencies, "the bulk of bookings, i.e. 80%, concerned France, and 20% abroad, mainly for Greece and the Balearic Islands," confirms Jean-Pierre Mas, president of Entreprises du Voyage (EdV) to Air journal. "This ratio is completely reversed. Usually, travel agency sales, in terms of number of passengers, are 33% for France, including overseas, and 66% for abroad," he specifies.
And to summarize: "It’s intuitive, but the French want proximity, to speak the same language, and also, even if they don’t say so, a reassuring health system".
