French Tourists Lead Morocco’s Tourism Boom, Spending 10 Billion Dirhams in 2018

Among the tourists who came to Morocco, the French are the majority with 27.6% of the total foreign tourists during the year 2018, or nearly one tourist out of three. With 1.84 million arrivals, they recorded a growth of 14% compared to the year 2017.
According to MAP, the climate and the discovery of the country are among the main reasons that push the French to spend their holidays in the Kingdom. The agency specifies that 23% of French tourists come to Morocco after being informed on the internet, while 21% of them are inspired by a previous trip.
According to other data from the results of the "Tourist Demand Monitoring" (SDT) surveys carried out among various categories of tourists, 76% of French tourists organized their trip to Morocco through a booking site and only 21% through a travel agency or tour operator.
Similarly, most of the French (72%) who visited the Kingdom stayed in classified hotels.
Moreover, the money spent by all French tourists represents a significant amount for the tourism market since they used 9.8 billion dirhams in Morocco at the end of 2017, an increase of 8.89% compared to the same period.
Thus, the average expenditure per person per night increased, from 751 dirhams in 2016 to 813 dirhams in 2017.
